City of Jewels

SAMUEL SHENOVA

It came in meditation today when I asked my mind why it’s so restless with worry even when things are good. I felt it below my rib cage and above my navel, the heat of the feeling, and understood rebirth to be a kind of digestion; to take all that came before, all the lessons and memories, and swallow them so they can metabolize into being. This takes trust. It means you give yourself permission to forget, to halt prevention and risk wonder. Things won’t look the same. Old joys won’t sparkle like they used to but that’s the point. When you’re born again, new jewels begin to shine. They are catching your light.
